“You’re mad, bonkers, completely off your head. But I’ll tell you a secret. All the best people are.”- Lewis Carroll
Thanks to Elon, we now have flying cars.
Every great idea goes through a phase where it sounds completely insane.
And that’s when the Reasonable People (RP) show up.
“Who’s going to pay for that?” – RP
“Has anyone ever done it before?” – RP
“Wouldn’t it be safer to start smaller?” – RP
And my personal favorite…
“Let’s be realistic .” – Damn RP’s
Three little words that have probably destroyed more brilliant ideas than bad execution ever did.
Because reasonable people have a point (meh…)
They have spreadsheets. (lots)
They have historical data. (of course)
They have seventeen reasons your idea won’t work. (that’s all)
And they might be right about sixteen of them.
But here’s what I’ve learned.
If your dream doesn’t raise a few eyebrows, how the hell is it going to blow anyone’s mind?
Think about the dreams you almost gave up on.
The opportunities you passed up because nobody else thought they were possible.
The dreams you quietly downsized until they stopped making anybody uncomfortable.
Including you.
You weren’t born to spend your entire life making your dreams easier for other people to understand.
Dash of Courage
So the next time somebody tells you to be reasonable…
Thank them for their concern.
Then go build something that makes their spreadsheets burst into flames.
Courage over comfort,
